Read Galatians 6:9

As teachers, we want to do what is best for our students.  Best practices in Language Arts are the most effective strategies to teach these skills, and will have the highest yield for student success. Good teachers cannot tire of seeking out the best practices for reaching and teaching our students the skills to be good readers and writers if we want students to achieve mastery.

We should always use mindful communication with our students. Before speaking or writing, we must consider the impact of our words. Our aim should be to reflect God’s truth with clarity and kindness. We should also commit to our own continuous learning in the language arts. It is important to read widely, explore different genres, and learn from exemplary writers to enhance our own skills. Language Arts should be used to encourage others. We can write notes of appreciation, share uplifting stories, and be intentional about using words to build up others.

As we engage in best practices for teaching, our pursuit of excellence should reflect the excellence found in God’s communication to us. Let grace and truth permeate our words, creating teaching that glorifies God and blesses those who encounter it.

Using the message of the scripture, answer the following questions:

  • Best practices continue to evolve as we learn more about how students learn.  Give an example of a practice that was used when you were taught to read and write that helped you learn.
  • How will the use of technology help you to continuously build your knowledge of best practices?
