As the first half of this course is ending, it’s helpful to consider the question, “What will the future bring?”. Jesus took care to address this question with his disciples, so that they would be able to stand firm against the turmoil they would face after his death.
Note, in Matthew 24, that Jesus and his disciples were just outside the temple at Jerusalem–surely the most impressive building they would ever see–yet it was much less grand than the original temple ((I Kings 8). As you study the material in Lesson 5, the key to keeping ourselves balanced as we read of the vast changes going on during those years, is Jesus’ words in Matt. 24: 42-46. He tells us not to be deceived and to rely upon him.
Upon reflection, please answer the following questions:
- What effects of the colonial period (which is first discussed in Lesson 5) are you directly familiar with?
- Considering recent history, how do you think Christians can best be ready for Christ’s return?
