This passage challenges the reader to place his trust in the Lord and to not trust in his own understanding. Throughout Proverbs, trusting the Lord is often connected to fearing the Lord. In fact, Proverbs 1:7 says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. When we do not know what to do, we are challenged to place our trust in the Lord. How do we do that? We recognize him for who He is and allow what we know and understand about Him to shape our confidence in Him.
As you study and prepare to enter your work week focused on the challenges and benefits of artificial intelligence in the classroom, you may be wondering what the connection is with this passage. How often have we felt like we see so many options and opportunities, and feel quite overwhelmed because we are unsure of the path forward? The world of technology is continually changing and evolving, and we are always in need of God’s guidance and wisdom as we make decisions about what we should or should not use in our classroom. The principles in this verse–trust in the Lord, do not lean on our own understanding, in all our ways acknowledge God– are excellent principles for knowing how to make decisions concerning technology in our classrooms.
In a world increasingly dependent on technology and trusting in artificial intelligence, knowing the source of all knowledge and wisdom is of utmost importance to us. God is always ready to answer us when we call upon Him in trust.
After careful consideration, please answer the following questions.
- In what areas do you feel it will be important to not lean on your own understanding in the area of artificial intelligence (AI)?
- How can we be tempted to trust in artificial intelligence rather than God as the source of all knowledge?
- How can what we know about God and His truth help us navigate the ever-changing world of technology and specifically artificial intelligence?
