In this passage, Luke tells us about a time when Jesus was ministering to a large crowd of people. Jesus became aware of a certain man in the crowd and in his omniscience was aware that Zacchaeus was receptive to what Jesus was saying. He engaged Zacchaeus and invited himself to dinner. As a result, Zacchaeus’s life was changed.
In some ways, what happened in this story is an example of the readings for this week related to targeting and understanding the consumer purchase decision. Jesus was looking for individuals who were receptive to His message and then targeted Zacchaeus and shared his message with him in a way that resulted in Zacchaeus accepting what Jesus was saying. While we obviously do not have the abilities that Jesus possessed to understand what people are thinking, we should always be sensitive to God’s leading and target those individuals that God puts in our life’s path and minister to them in a way that is meaningful to them.
Consider the following as you reflect on this week’s devotional:
- How do you find those who are receptive and market to that group?
- As you reflect, Jesus did not always look for those who were receptive, but went out of his way to find them that were not yet receptive, his ministry and power made them receptive, how does marketing work in that same manner?
