Acts 15

Acts chapter 15 describes how church leaders came together at Jerusalem, consulted together on the basis of Scripture to resolve a doctrinal controversy that had been raised by some in the church. The controversy was that some were teaching that unless one is circumcised, he cannot be saved. This matter was handled maturely by the apostles and they concluded that it was wrong to make circumcision a prerequisite for salvation.

This week’s study will focus on some of the controversies espoused by some in the contemporary church. Our aim and objective is to identify some of them, and  devise ways in which such controversies may be dealt with on the basis and foundation of the Bible. The primary goal in all this is to always remain faithful to the word of God in matters of doctrine[s].

Answer the following questions:

  • What can the contemporary church learn from the gathering of  church leaders at Jerusalem?
  • What are some of the controversies the church is grappling with today? Name at least 5
  • Develop an outline of some key concepts that impress you about Paul’s manner of doing ministry.
