Deuteronomy 1:16-17, Isaiah 10:1-2, Mark 7:21-23, II Corinthians 4:6, James 2:14-17
God is deeply concerned about justice. In Scripture, the use of the term “justice” in the Old Testament suggests a holistic use of the term, such that justice would be achieved in all of society and via every function of government. But the Old Testament hinted that the ultimate source of injustice is the evil in the human heart, and Christ affirmed this truth in passages such as Mark 7:21-23. He was indeed the Master Physician who came to cure us from not just the symptoms of sin, but also the very disease itself, and we cannot really ensure that we fully love others—even those different from us—unless we surrender our will completely to the Lord. Thankfully, we have the Holy Spirit to empower us to do so, since we can do nothing good apart from God’s grace.
But practically speaking, faith without works is dead. So, just as we should seek to add to our faith an actual demonstration of actions and decisions that are in keeping with true love and justice, so should an organization ensure that true justice is fulfilled in all of its policies and practices. This takes practice, forethought, and wise counsel, but it also takes an organization that ensures that relationships are valued and sincere, between leadership and followers.
Where have you seen justice playing out in an organization? Where have you seen injustice?
