Exodus 25 and 32

Worship of God is the main theme of the book of Exodus. God told Moses at the time of Moses’ call that when he had brought the people out of Egypt, they should worship God on the mountain of God(Exodus 3:12). In chapter 25, God gives details of how the people were to worship Him. In fact, we can say that Christian worship is prescribed worship. Yet as stubborn and obstinate people often are, we find that in chapter 32 the people turn away from the worship of the true God and worship idols.

Our study this week is to emphasize this primary purpose for which God created us and for which He moved to deliver the people from Egypt as recorded in the book of Exodus. That purpose is specifically to worship God and serve Him only.

Prepare to answer the following questions:

  • Explain the importance of worshiping God according to how He has instructed us? Do you think if we worship God some other way our worship will be acceptable? Why or why not?
  • What are some of the consequences of worshiping idols other than the true God?
  • What lessons do you learn about humanity in terms of their commitment and faithfulness towards the God who delivered them?
