In week 2 of our course on Romans, we want to appreciate the gospel message, particularly the gospel message according to the book of Romans. This means we must rightly understand what the “righteousness of God” is. For our devotional this week, let’s reflect on the “righteousness of God,” as first seen in Romans 1:17.
To appreciate the meaning of the “righteousness of God,” we could turn our attention to Psalm 98. Read through this psalm and locate the noun “righteousness” in close proximity to the verb “revealed.” This noun + verb combination is also seen in Romans 1:17. Present your thoughts on whether or not Paul may be intentionally alluding to this psalm at this point in Romans, and, if so, then what might the “righteousness of God” mean as it relates to the gospel in Romans?
