In these three chapters, Paul gives Timothy instruction to remain at Ephesus in order to provide instruction about teaching sound doctrine in the church. Part of Paul’s instruction to Timothy involves an explanation about the qualifications of pastors and deacons in a church. In light of Paul’s instruction to Timothy, please answer the following devotional questions:
- What are the qualifications of a pastor (overseer)? How are these qualifications different from the qualifications of a deacon? Should those who are divorced or divorced/remarried serve in either of these leadership positions?
- What is the difference between a pastor and a deacon?
- Should somebody who is single be a pastor of a church?
- Should a woman serve as a pastor or deaconess at a church?
