I Peter 1:3-4

The pressures of society are real and constant.  Every day, we make choices that determine what social influences play a role in shaping our behavior and attitudes, and how they will determine our course of action.  We will all undoubtedly face the struggle of deciding which social ideas to adopt, and we sometimes do not make the correct choice. We also struggle with recognizing these influences in the first place, and often do not realize their effect until after they have already changed our sense of self.  However, we always have the ability to develop insight and understanding into how to better align our belief systems with those that God’s Word supports.

We need to remember to stay rooted in our Christian beliefs and analyze incoming social information as it relates to His teachings.  This may be difficult, as social influence is sometimes so automatic that we fail to critically analyze incoming information.  But reliance on our foundation of faith provides us with a safety net in that, if we stay grounded in faith, we will be more conscious of these social influences, and recognize their role in shaping behavior.
