Psalm 139:13-16

The principles in the first workshop emphasize first of all how God has gifted some men and women in knowing what and how to research. We could just use “common sense,” but often this falls short of what research actually is. Scientific research allows us to appreciate the wholeness of our created being (biological, psychological, and socio-emotional). Psalm 139 calls to ponder just how intricately we are made and how miraculous it is that everything works together. For example, we have most of the brain cells we will have until we die by the time we are a four-week fetus. Think of the miracle of each brain cell going to the place where it has been pre-programmed to be for the next 80 or so years.

  • Using this and other passages, what is your response to those who believe that abortion is just and right?
  • What Christian principles are reflected in the ethics of research?
  • Read Part I in the Myers & Jeeves book.  What do the authors mean when they say “psychology is but one aspect of the whole?”
