I Kings 5-6

II Samuel 7: 5-17

Some of the concepts you will explore this week relate to brands and branding.  Several scriptural passages are relevant to the behavior around branding.

An example of this is the account of Solomon’s building of the Lord’s Temple in I Kings 5-6.  King David, Solomon’s father, had desired to build a temple to the Lord but in II Samuel 7: 5-17, God had the Prophet Nathan tell King David that his son Solomon would build it. When Solomon became king he began to build the Temple and used the best materials he could obtain.

Among the woods chosen were cedar and juniper trees from the forests of Lebanon.  Lebanon had a reputation for having great forests and one could refer to this in today’s terminology as a “Brand” known as “The Cedars of Lebanon.”

In today’s society the term “Christian” can be interpreted in some ways as a “Brand.”  What does the term “Christian” mean to you?
