Psalm 92: 1-3;  Ephesians 5:19

Listen To Our Hearts

The Bible is full of references to music and singing. David wrote the book of Psalms which were meant to be sung accompanied by musical instruments. Ephesians 5:19 encourages us to speak to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord.  Psalm 92 exhorts us to make music to the Most High God.  Throughout God’s word, music is shown to be an important part of God’s Kingdom and He has given us tools to create beautiful melodies.

The two basic elements of music that define melody are rhythm and pitch. Melody is a succession of both. Melody is what we remember when we think of a song, and one which a listener remembers and can perform. Music helps us to remember things and is often used to memorize scripture and educational facts. Singing psalms and hymns is a wonderful way of proclaiming the story of salvation and God’s truths. There is spiritual power in music which often creates an atmosphere for worship and praise. Music allows us to express our love to God with our whole being. Throughout God’s word we read of singing in heaven and earth. These are the melodies that flow from the hearts of people to a loving Creator. When we worship in music, we express our emotions, our love for God, and the awesome wonders of His creation.
