We began this course with a devotional about Psalm 19, and it is fitting that we come back to another Psalm as we begin our fourth week of study together. Many believe that Psalm 8 is one of the most poetic psalms of all. Its inspired content is powerful. The description of God’s creation of the moon and the stars as simple “finger work” to God in verse 3 is intriguing! When one considers the intensity of the shining sun, the majesty of the moon, and the shimmering stars in the night skies, one cannot dismiss the power of God. God created the universe and gave human beings a special role in it.
God gave human beings dominion over His creation, and the ability to study, investigate and learn about the world which we inhabit and enjoy through integration of STEM. Classroom projects and activities in STEM are opportunities for us to share specific insights gained from a given experiment or project. It also provides students with opportunities to become motivated and intrigued to learn more about God Himself and all that He has done.
Integrating STEM activities into all areas of education gives us opportunities to learn about the earth with the understanding of God as Creator. May we remember we are investing in eternity as we work to spark awe and wonder into the hearts and minds of our students.
After careful consideration, please answer the following questions.
- What is one of the most intriguing facts you know about God’s creation? Explain why it is so interesting to you.
- Describe a project or two you might be able to use to help your students become excited about the same topic (from the previous question).
- How might you illustrate to students the special role that God has given human beings in His creation? What are some specific lessons/ideas you might use to do this?
