Read Matthew 25

This parable shows the value of using money to make money.  In New Testament times, a talent was a unit of measure that related to money.  In this story, a man was going on a trip and gave one of his servants ten talents, another five talents and another two talents.  The one with ten talents went out into the market place and invested the talents in some way that earned an additional ten talents.  Likewise, the servant with five talents earned an additional five talents.  The third servant buried his two talents and returned them to his master. The master became angry with this servant and took the two talents away and threw him out.   Jesus was teaching us that we should take what he gives us, whether it is money, skills, intellect, physical strength or some other gift, and put it to use for God and see it multiply.

In business, the organization’s stakeholders are like the Master in the parable. They invest their treasure in an organization and they expect a return on that investment.  This requires that organizations carefully keep records and track the financial health of the organization to see if they are providing a return to their stakeholders.

Discuss the ethical dilemmas which can occur when a business get too focused on making a profit.
