Read Galatians 3:1-14

Paul appeals to Old Testament context in his argument in Galatians. Paul ultimately wants the Galatians to stand firm in the true gospel, but he is facing the pressure of the troublemakers’ propaganda.

As students of the Bible, we must be “at home” in both New Testament contexts and Old Testament contexts. Looking at Paul’s pointing to Abraham in Gal 3:6-9 and then Paul’s appeal to the Old Testament in Galatians 3:10-14 can be difficult to understand if one is not prepared with an exegetical method.

How should we understand Paul’s use of the Old Testament in Galations 3:1-14?

Did Paul have an exegetical method when he interpreted Scripture into his own writing of Scripture? If so, how should we understand Paul’s use of the OT in Gal 3:1-14?
