Studying the environment shows us the interconnectedness of many components of our environment. In our study of food webs, we saw how the different levels of the web relied on one another for survival and for the transfer of energy. Without plants to produce food and oxygen, animals would not be able to live. In turn, plants depend on the carbon dioxide given off by animals for their existence; plants use the carbon dioxide to make their food. Decomposers then rely on dead organisms for their food and existence.
The abiotic factors of the environment are also connected with one another. The water, oxygen, carbon, and nitrogen cycles all have shared segments, and work together to support life on earth. Soil, sunlight, and air support growth and development of living things.
Although each of these components of the environment has different structures and functions, all work together to sustain life on earth. God has thus created our world to reflect and remind us of the truths found in Scripture.
As you prepare to engage in discussion, consider how the created world reflects the ideas in this Scriptural passage. Also consider the idea that the body of Christ is an organism rather than an organization.
