Read 1 Corinthians 12:27

As the Apostle Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 12, we are part of the “body” and understanding our role in life, in the church, or on a team is very important. No matter who we are or what we do, we are a part of a team. Even the parts of the body that seem less significant are still important if the body is going to function well.  Through the blessing of modern medicine, doctors have the ability to remove parts of the body if they become injured or diseased and the body can continue to function.  However, any doctor of worth would say, no matter what part has to be removed, it has some impact on the body.  The body might be able to compensate in different ways, but there is a change because a part is missing.

Teams should be viewed in the same way.   For optimal functioning, we need all team members working together as efficiently as possible.  When one is missing, another team member has to compensate for the loss, which can affect the effectiveness of that team member.

As you think about the teams you are part of, do you see the value of every team member, no matter how insignificant their role may seem?  How can you value those team members with insignificant roles to a greater degree?
