Luke 17:20-37

In this scripture, Jesus is speaking about the Kingdom of God. He notes that the Pharisees were often looking with speculative eyes on the issues of the coming of the Kingdom. However, Jesus makes it clear that the coming of the Kingdom of God does not come through mere speculation. He then proceeds to give a description of what will set the stage for the arrival of the God’s Kingdom.

Jesus’ instruction seems to focus less on reading the “signs of the times” and more on his teaching about the Kingdom of God. We live in a day and age where people are constantly trying to come up with a strategy for the return of the Lord. However, rather than coming up with a prediction for the end times, we must focus on Jesus’ actual teaching on the subject to help us discern truth in our daily lives.

As you think about the concept of the Kingdom of God, please answer the following questions.

  • Up to this point in your life, what is your understanding of the Kingdom of God?
  • How can Christians rightly approach learning, and teaching, about the Kingdom of God?
