Leaders’ communication is both verbal and nonverbal within an organization. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Your actions speak so loudly, I cannot hear what you are saying.” Jesus’ act of self-sacrifice, emptying himself of all that was rightfully his, gave humankind the hope of salvation. What he gave was not to benefit himself; in fact, it cost him everything, but gave us hope! As leaders we are called to put the needs of the organizations and those who follow us ahead of our own needs and wants.
- This passage of Scripture shares the act of Jesus “emptying himself” (Greek word kenosis) for us.
- How can leaders apply this principle to their leadership practice among followers, communicating their intended desires through actions, as well as words?
- How can leaders appropriately maintain leadership positions and still focus on the needs of the organization and the people they lead?
