Acts 2

The book of Acts was written by Luke, and it is the sequel to Luke’s Gospel. In Luke’s Gospel, we read about the first 30 years of Jesus’ life. In the book of Acts, we read about the first 30 years of the early church. In this way, the book of Acts functions like a bridge book between the life of Christ and the early church letters.

Acts 2 is Luke’s report of the Day of Pentecost, which happened 50 days after Jesus’ resurrection. As you seek to understand His word in its literary, historical, and theological context, please be praying for God to give you insight into His Word. Once you have finished reading through Acts 2, please take the time to reflect on and answer the following questions:

  • What is the church? Briefly define it. What particular local church do you attend or belong to?
  • If you have been baptized before, briefly describe your experience of baptism.
  • Do you partake in the Lord’s Supper at your church? If so, how often?
  • How would you describe your church experience to an unbeliever who does not know about the local church?
