Genesis 12:1-3

As you read these verses, make note of who is involved, what is being required, and what is the potential outcome.

One thing of note is that God raises up individuals to rescue the perishing. Although, in this case, the rescue ultimately will come at some point in the distant future. This passage is the beginning of the rest of Scripture. Think about this: Had Abram not followed God, there would be no Isaac, Jacob, or Joseph recorded in Scripture. What about Moses, David, and Solomon? What about prophets like Isaiah (7:14, 9:6, and 53:1-12) and Micah (5:2) who tell of the one to come, the one who we provide salvation for people from all nations? What about Mary and Joseph? John the Baptist? Peter and Andrew and James and John? Had Abram not followed God, the story would be completely different.

Jewish Philosophers say, “If you save a life, it’s as if you saved the whole world. And, if you take a life, it’s as if you have killed the whole world.” This thought is based on the idea that all people are the descendants of Adam.

Think about your own life and what God seeks to do through you if you walk in His ways. What if you don’t walk in His ways?

As you reflect on the above devotional,  identify and describe how different things would be in your surroundings (life, family, work, school, neighborhood, etc.) had you not followed Jesus.
